LOW BACK PAIN AFTER A CAR, TRUCK OR SEMI-TRUCK CRASH

One of the most common symptoms after a car, truck or semi-truck crash is low back pain.
At P.I. HELP Chiropractic and Injury Clinics in Salt Lake City (Murray), UT and San Antonio, TX, our team of board-certified medical doctors and chiropractic physicians has the training, knowledge and expertise to treat low back pain after a car, truck or semi-truck crash.

ANATOMY OF THE LOW BACK OR LUMBAR REGION
Let’s first talk about the low back. The low back or lumbar region is made up of five lumbar vertebrae that are separated by five intervertebral discs or more commonly known as just discs. The five discs of the lumbar spine are accountable for approximately two inches of overall height in the adult human. The lumbar spine houses and protects the lumbar spinal nerves that give life to your pelvis, lower abdomen and legs. The lumbar spine is held or connected together by small joints and a number of ligaments and muscles. Compared to the vertebrae and discs in the neck and mid back, the lumbar discs and vertebrae are taller and wider, yet more susceptible to injury.

LOW BACK PAIN SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Low back pain can start immediately after a car, truck or semi-truck crash and sometimes symptoms may not appear until a few days after the crash. Common low back pain symptoms are: stiffness, pain, muscle spasms, numbness or tingling into the legs and feet, weakness in the legs, and pain that radiates into the buttocks and down into the legs. Any sort or abnormal symptoms, discomfort or pain in the low back should be taken seriously. You shouldn’t disregard or brush off even mild low back pain or assume it will just go away with time. It is imperative that you go see a medical professional like our board-certified medical doctors and chiropractic physicians at P.I. HELP Chiropractic and Injury Clinics to get a full evaluation and diagnosis.

COMMON LOW BACK INJURIES AFTER A CAR, TRUCK OR SEMI-TRUCK CRASH
The most common low back injury that we see at P.I. HELP Chiropractic and Injury Clinics is soft tissue injuries which includes strains, sprains and tears or excessive stretching to the tendons, muscles and ligaments. The second most common low back injury that we see is bulging or herniated discs which by itself is relatively painless but they may cause significant pain if they are compressing or pinching lumbar spinal nerves. Bulging or herniated discs are caused by large amounts of force to the lumbar discs during a crash. The third most common low back injury that we see that really is not all that common is compression fracture of the lumbar vertebrae. Compression fractures due to a car, truck or semi-truck crash occur when an excessive amount of compressive force is placed on the front part of the vertebrae, exceeding its inherent strength, while the back of the vertebrae is unaffected.
